The Holographic paradigm
and the understanding of human behavior

The advances in modern science (subatomic physics and quantum pontential) as well as Bohm’s implicated order of the universe, have only taken place when one field of study opened up into other fields of research. After decades of “ specialization ”, this approach of delving deeply into a single field has become inadequate for seeking new discoveries. It is now inconceivable that in a world where holistic thought is making its presence felt, there is a radical division between a wide range of fields of study. Psychology is already beginning to address current needs when physical dysfunction (diseases of the body) are now studied linked to psychological dysfunction (mental illnesses) in psychosomatic cases. Pribram (1977) sets forth that his work on memory and the functioning of the brain has les him to conclude that, in many aspects, the brain functions as if it were a hologram, the crucial part being the notion that the part has access to the whole and that exists an underlying harmony within, what the physicists refer to as a “ holistic frequency sphere which transcends temporal and spatial limits ”.
Within this contexte, allow me to make an incursion into areas which do not seem to have close connections (psychology-Physics-geometry), but when placed side by side, they have begin to shed new lights (and new shadows) on my chosen field of study : space-time harmony in human relationships. The relationships that are established between similar (or dissimilar) fields of study have taking shape and gaining impetus to benefit each other. As my search on Empathy (Serra, S.M.A., 1990) was a study of non-verbal communication, it encouraged me to study harmony of movements wtthin the kinesphere. The focus was on the harmony of people’s relationships as manifested through empathetic behavior in gestures and postures, as well as in the movement’s qualities related to their ways of shaping the body in the space.
The observation of different individual’s movements lead one to think that their structure could be based on five geometric shapes. These forms establish, through their specific structures, more or less defined styles in their relationships to the world. These geometric forms are these five standard polyhedrons : the tetrahedon, the cube, the octahedron, the dodecahedron and the ichosahedron. We postule that people who approach world in more ‘limited’ way, with fewer ‘side of facets’ to ‘receive’ others or ‘give off ’ something, would have more restricted areas of movement within their kinespheres (vital space). On the other hand, people who approach their environment in a more ‘sophicticated’ or complex manner, offering a variety of ‘sides’ to ‘receive’ others or ‘give of themselves’, would express freer and a wider variety of movements in their kinespheres.
This work is based on the premise that the body and mind are not separate entities and that movement is triggered by internal attitudes affected by experiences of mind emotion and mind-sensation. Thus, movement will always be a result of the inteaction between the individual’s motor, mental and attitudinal traits. Personality can be observed through the Individual’s Repertoire of Movement (North, M., 1975) ; Through the specific combination, which every human being has developed since birth, of Movement Factor Quality : Space, Fluency, Weight and Time (Kestenberg, J., 1975), which can be observed through motor, mental and attitudinal traits (Serra, S.M.A., 1990).
Thus, the search for new manifestation of mind-sensation intagration requires exploration of a model which modern physics has been utilizing in this decade : the holographic paradigm. In summary, with this model we are exploring a structure which is able to account for the oneness of the mental and physical body, movement and internal motivation, shape and content, all the while attempting to avoid that these areas somehow remain discriminated as apparent observable reality and underlying inferred reality
